Yale University has announced for the 2004-5 academic year that undergraduate tuition combined with room and board will amount to $38,850, representing a five percent increase over the current term bill.

Next year’s term bill for Yale College will amount to $38,850, representing a 5% increase from the current year’s bill. In its statement, President Richard C. Levin emphasized that Yale will provide an exceptional educational experience through its curriculum and resources, while also ensuring that financial aid aligns with students’ demonstrated needs. For the 2004-05 academic year, Yale College tuition will be $29,820, with room and board fees totaling $9,030, compared to $28,400 in tuition and $8,600 in room and board fees for the current year, resulting in a combined total of $37,000. Due to its “need-blind” admissions policy, Yale accepts all applicants without regard to financial ability, and all financial aid is based on demonstrated need. The average annual scholarship grant for students on financial aid is $21,500, with the highest grant at $37,300. Approximately 40% of undergraduates receive financial aid each year. The financial aid budget for 2003-04 exceeded $43 million, representing a 12% increase over the previous year, and Yale anticipates a more than 10% growth in its undergraduate financial aid budget for the 2004-05 academic year. Various enhancements to financial aid policies are also expected to be implemented in the coming years to support students more effectively.

Yale University has recently announced an increase in both the average student aid grant and the total budget allocated for financial aid. Students on financial aid are required to contribute a portion of their education costs, which they may fulfill through a combination of earnings during term-time, summer earnings, and low-cost loans. For the 2004-05 academic year, the expected term-time earnings or loan contribution is $4,200, which is notably lower than the amounts in place several years prior. A student's financial aid grant is calculated as the difference between the total tuition charged and the sum of the contributions expected from the student and their family. In addition to these updates, Yale will honor three individuals for their contributions to New Haven and beyond, as part of the annual YAA Public Service Awards. The awards ceremony is set for September 18, 2026. The university also announced a milestone achievement in its geothermal energy project, which has been named Clean Energy Under Science Hill. Furthermore, an upcoming podcast, Beyond Blue, will soon be available, and listeners can expect a two-minute read summarizing recent developments. The Yale Alumni Association has also started a campaign to expand access and opportunity through its "For Humanity" initiative, positioning Yale to advance discovery and address societal challenges.
