Pomona College has launched the “Originals: The Campaign for Pomona College,” a $530 million fundraising effort aimed at expanding access, academic excellence, and global education. The campaign includes five main priorities:
Make Pomona Accessible: The college plans to allocate $105 million towards financial aid, particularly focusing on middle-income families, and addressing additional costs that can create barriers for students. This includes initiatives like the Technology Access Program (TAP) and Access to Course Essentials (ACE), which provide students with necessary academic resources.
Lead in a Changing World: With a $175 million investment, Pomona will support academic excellence by establishing new faculty positions, advancing research, and expanding faculty-student research. The campaign also aims to enhance global learning through the Center for Global Engagement and Global Gateways, and increase access to transformative experiences through the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) and the Pomona College Internship Program (PCIP).
Nurture Our Community: A $52 million commitment focuses on strengthening wellness resources, mentorship, and opportunities for students to build community and belonging. This includes expanding access to wellness resources and creating more mentorship and athletic opportunities.
The campaign has already secured significant support, with nearly 10,000 donors contributing $247 million, reaching about 47% of the campaign goal. Over 40% of Sagehen alumni have engaged in some aspect of the campaign through philanthropic support, volunteerism, or participation in events. The campaign also aims to double alumni engagement, allowing more than 27,000 alumni to deepen their connection to Pomona through various activities.
A key initiative is the groundbreaking of the Center for Global Engagement, a 100,000-square-foot facility scheduled to welcome its first residents in fall 2028. This center will unite residential life, academic inquiry, and global programming in a new living-and-learning model.
President G. Gabrielle Starr emphasizes that the campaign is about ensuring that Pomona remains a place where remarkable students can thrive regardless of financial circumstances, and where faculty can redefine the liberal arts education. She notes that the community’s partnership is crucial in strengthening the college’s excellence and independence for future generations.
