Harvard College recently welcomed the Class of 2030 with a series of traditional and celebratory events designed to acclimate new students to their academic journey. The festivities kicked off on September 2, 2026, with a full house of first-year students, upperclassmen, staff, and faculty gathered at Lavietes Pavilion. The event was filled with excitement and anticipation as the newest members of the Harvard community began their orientation.
Move-In Day saw cars packed with dorm necessities making their way into Harvard Yard. Families, friends, faculty, and upperclassmen worked together to help first-years settle into their new homes. Despite the bustling activity, there was a sense of camaraderie and excitement among the students as they made new friends on their first day.
The Crimson Kickoff brought Lavietes Pavilion to life with energetic competitions, inspiring speeches from faculty and Peer Advising Fellows (PAFs), and a spirited rivalry between residential neighborhoods. The day concluded with a fun-filled schedule of activities, ensuring that the new students left with lasting memories.
Convocation, a significant milestone in the orientation process, took place despite a rainstorm that forced a change of venue from the usual Tercentenary Theatre to Sanders Theatre. Dean David Deming of Harvard College addressed the first-years, emphasizing the importance of the moment and the challenges they would face. He expressed confidence in the students’ abilities and looked forward to building a strong community together. The students listened intently as speakers shared words of wisdom.
Zach Berg ’28 and Daniel Zhao ’28, co-presidents of the Harvard Undergraduate Association, unveiled the Class of 2030 class banner, symbolizing the beginning of their academic journey. The ceremony underscored the significance of the occasion and the unity of the new class.
