The Yale University admissions process has shifted its criteria to include new data from the Opportunity Atlas, a nationwide project mapping economic mobility at the census tract level. This data is integrated with Yale’s existing Landscape tool, which has been in use since 2017. Admissions officers have noted that this data enhances the evaluation of applicants from under-resourced areas, leading to a significant rise in enrollment from students with lower-income backgrounds, including first-generation college students and those eligible for Federal Pell Grants. Last year’s Bulldog Days welcomed over 1,400 students and 800 family members, achieving an unprecedented 48% yield rate. Students from low-income backgrounds are provided with financial support to attend Bulldog Days, allowing them to experience Yale before making their final decisions. Last year, the Yale Travel Program awarded grants to over 550 admitted students. Starting in January, the admissions office will offer travel grants to first-time visitors, ensuring they can immerse themselves in Yale’s campus life.
